Our Story – Artilia

Art is beautiful, it is emotional, and makes us feel things. It is personal and says a lot about you. That is why we create art that matters, especially to you.

What is artilia?

Artilia = Art + Family

Familia in Spanish means family. It is also similar to how you pronounce family in Italian.

A Note from our founder

This all started when I took a trip home to visit my then three-year-old nephew, James. I had brought some art supplies with me in hopes of giving us something to do that didn’t involve me crawling on the floor. I’ve always loved art and I wanted to share this passion with him.

I was thrilled to see his excitement to paint and how he appeared to not have a care in the world. To him there was no right or wrong way to paint, he just wanted to mix colors and sweep the brush across the page. Afterwards I took what we had created and added sticker eyes to the different strokes, and with that the brushstrokes came to life as little characters emerged.

What I realistically would have thrown away ended up becoming one of my favorite pieces of art.

I took pictures of the pieces of paper and digitally compiled them together, and then had it printed and framed. What I realistically would have thrown away ended up becoming one of my favorite pieces of art. Every time I look at it, I smile. As he continues to grow at lightning speed, I am always reminded of the moment when he was a carefree little boy learning how to paint.

And so Artilia was born. We saw how genuine and creative children are, but how often those pieces of pure creativity don’t get the attention they deserve. They might get hung on a refrigerator or tacked to a wall, but inevitably either find their way to the trash or get packed away in a box where they slowly fade from our memories.

However, these moments are learning milestones and the way children express themselves. So we thought:
